Error in handling your search request
1. What caused this error message?
The most frequent cause of an error message when searching is the use of brackets (parentheses) in a search string (lots of legislation use them in
the title - for example,
Administrative Decisions (Judicial Review) Act 1977). Parentheses (and other special characters like punctuation
marks) are not indexed by the search engine and should be replaced in your search string by spaces. Some examples:
- administrative decisions judicial review NOT administrative decisions (judicial review)
- s 51 g NOT s. 51(g)
- governor general NOT governor-general
For more tips see the
Quick Reference sheet,
or the
User Guide (
Download RTF).
2. If you know the title/name of the Act or Regulation
Think about search vs browse. If you know the title of the Act or Regulation then
it's better to
Browse Databases. From Browse Databases you can
select the appropriate database and then navigate to the Act or Regulation from the alphabetical or numerical list of titles.
